Advanced Fly Fishing Courses

The advanced course content will be formulated specifically to your fly fishing needs whether on a still water or river, what follows are some of the basic elements which have commonality with whichever type of fly fishing interests you.
Your Outfit

  • Your existing fly fishing outfit and setup will be reviewed with advice given on improving the setup as a whole.
  • Advice and discussion on leader construction and how to tailor a leader to your specific fishing needs.

Casting

  • Learning the more technical casts will be part of the advanced course and will include loop control techniques and hauling on the overhead cast to improve distance and presentation.
  • The more advanced roll casts will also be covered such as the jump roll and for changes of direction the spey casts, the circle cast, the snap tee. All of these advanced roll casts can also have a haul introduced for more dynamics and distance.
  • How to overcome drag imposed by the current by learning how to produce an aerial mend in the fly line and how to curve cast.
  • How to cast heavy or large flies safely.

On the Bank

  • Learn deep wading safety and how to read the water. Identify likely fish lies and holding spots and discuss how to fish them.
  • Improve your dry fly, nymphing and wet fly fishing techniques and fishing with a dropper.
  • Learn how to cast in confined spaces and how to overcome situations where a conventional cast is inadequate. Learn how to present and control your flies at distance.

Handling the fish, Is the fish to be returned or kept?
Learn how to return a fish safely to the water after being caught and how to dispatch a fish correctly should you wish to keep it.

All the instruction will be carried out on either a still water or river upon which you can expect lots of banter and chatting about all things fishing to make your session enjoyable, fun and informative without being too formal.

The advanced course will be conducted on a one to one basis, and unless you wish to bring a friend or partner you'll have my full attention all to yourself for the duration of your time on the water.

COSTS

Part day fly fishing instruction / guiding

  • 1 person: £100
  • 2 people: £150

Full day fly fishing instruction / guiding

  • 1 person: £150
  • 2 people: £230

All of the above costs will be plus fishing fees, if applicable.

Your equipment needs will be catered for at no extra cost.
If you already own suitable equipment, please by all means bring it along with you to the course.
